The pangolin, characterized by hard, plate-like scales, also called a “scaly ant-eater” is found across the tropical regions of Africa and Asia including the Indian subcontinent. The scales and meat are in much demand across south-east Asia, especially as Chinese medicine. Currently these animals are being sourced by traders across India including the southern-most states of Kerala and Tamilnadu.
A part of the proceeds of this sale will be directly invested in providing these materials to the state Forest Departments and check posts.
